My beautiful world – photography, travel and Vermont
Hello to my fellow photography buffs and welcome to my beautiful world! My name is Elaine and I live in Upstate New York. I grew up in Massachusetts in a house my great-grandfather built. I was lucky to live in a home with both my parents and my maternal grandparents. After all, when I asked for something and one said no, I could work my way through each one until I received a yes and that was always from my grandfather.

Inherited passion – Wonderful memories and a lot of fun
I believe my love for photography was from my grandfather. I remember he was always taking photographs wherever we went and also of me. After my grandfather died and we were selling the house, I was able to take all the boxes of old photos (my parents and grandmother had passed away earlier). Not only are they wonderful memories but there were also very old photos (even a few tintypes) of my great-grandparents and even one of my great-great-grandfather!
When I was around age 9, my grandfather bought me my first camera. I believe it was a “Brownie”. I was very excited to now have a camera of my very own! Over the years I have owned many types of cameras. Now that I have an iPhone I really enjoy utilizing it to capture family moments as well as scenic photos from my travels. Photography has never been so much fun. 🙂
A nice surprise – someone was interested in my pictures
I am a wife, a mother of three grown children, and a grandmother to two little ones with a third on the way. Life is good! I am not a person who feels comfortable talking about myself, so this is way out of my comfort zone to put myself out there. I was so surprised when Lara asked me to be a guest photographer on her blog! I have been on Instagram for a few years but did not really use it much at first, only posting for family and friends. I really did not think anyone else would be interested in my photos. I did not even understand hashtags!
A childhood dream – to travel the world
I have been fortunate to travel starting at an early age with a move to my father’s country of Bermuda. I believe that first adventure was the catalyst for my curiosity of the world. I adored geography at school and would dream of someday traveling to these foreign lands. My favorite cities are London for the history and Venice for its beauty.
After many years of land vacations, my oldest daughter introduced me to cruising and now that is my favorite mode of transportation. After all if you visit an area that you are not happy with, you do not have to spend a lot of time there. On the flip side if you fall in love with a city or country, you can always return for a longer stay.
It is somewhat amusing that cruising is now my favorite way to travel. When we moved to Bermuda we went on a cruise ship. I was seasick on the way to Bermuda and then again on the move back to the States. After that experience I was actually afraid to go on a large ship again. Now that cruise ships have stabilizers I have adjusted very well to this mode of travel and since then have never had an issue. Over the years we have visited many ports in the Caribbean, Mexico (both coasts), Alaska, and my favorite the Mediterranean.
And here it comes – my beloved Vermont!
In writing this, I have realized that the majority of my Instagram photos are of three things: Vermont, various bodies of water and trees! My husband and I travel to the state of Vermont approximately four times a year to visit family. I am so in love with the beauty of Vermont. If you ever have the chance to visit New England, Vermont is a must see. Vermont is beautiful in every season, however, my personal favorite is in the Fall. I do not believe there is anywhere that can compare with the changing of the leaves. The colors are spectacular and are a photographer’s dream to capture. When visiting Vermont we stay in the Burlington area. Burlington is situated on Lake Champlain with the Adirondack Mountains of New York State to the west and the Green Mountains of Vermont to the east. It is also a college town (University of Vermont and Champlain College) with many excellent farm to table restaurants across the entire state. The combination of farmland, Lake Champlain, and the mountain ranges result in gorgeous images showcasing the true beauty of nature.
In closing, I would like to sincerely thank Lara for this opportunity to share a few things I love and hope that anyone who reads this will enjoy my view of what I have discovered in our world!
